Your buyers are asking ChatGPT. It isn't naming you.
Ask AI to recommend a brand in your category. Do it now, before you read any further. If your competitor came back and you didn't, you've just watched a shortlist form without you on it. No click, no session, no form fill, and nothing in your analytics. As far as your reporting is concerned, nothing happened. As far as your pipeline is concerned, quite a lot did.

Problems we solve
Competitors come back and you don't
Someone on your team ran the obvious prompt, three competitors appeared, and you weren't among them. Nobody's quite sure what to do with that.
Organic traffic is falling off a cliff
Your keyword rankings look OK. Your clicks don't. Around 60% of Google searches now end without a click, because the answer is delivered above your result.
Deals arrive already decided
Prospects turn up having compared you to two competitors you've never heard them mention. Someone else built that shortlist and you weren't in the room.
Your agency has no answers
You asked and got a report on keyword positions and domain rating. None of it says whether AI would name your brand, which is now the thing that decides the shortlist.

What our clients say
Award-winning and accredited
We’re an award-winning and accredited HubSpot Platinum Solution Partner, Google Partner and Microsoft Partner, with 5-star HubSpot and Google reviews.
What actually changed
- Around 900 million people use ChatGPT every week, and 60% of Google searches now end without a click. Discovery is happening inside the answer, not in a list of links underneath it.
- The behaviour changed too. The average Google search runs three to four words. The average AI prompt runs twenty-five to thirty, and a typical ChatGPT conversation takes five turns of back and forth. People describe their situation now rather than guessing at keywords.
- HubSpot's own research found 42% of prospects used AI search to evaluate them, and that it was the single strongest indicator of purchase intent they measured.
- The traffic that does arrive is better. Semrush found visitors from AI engines convert at roughly 4.4 times the rate of organic search visitors, because they arrive having already done the comparison.
Why good companies end up invisible
- Your brand isn't a clear entity. A model has to work out what your company is before it can recommend you for anything. Most B2B sites describe fifteen capabilities with equal weight, which teaches it nothing.
- Nobody else is saying it. Roughly 85% of the brand mentions models draw on come from domains that aren't yours. Your own website accounts for about 8% of citations. If the only place claiming you're good at something is your homepage,
- Your best content can't be read. Gated PDFs, video embeds and podcast players are effectively invisible. We routinely find companies whose most authoritative asset is a report locked behind a form, where no model will ever reach it.
- It's gone stale. Pages left more than three months without an update are over three times more likely to lose visibility, and more than 70% of pages cited by AI have been updated within the past year.
How to find out where you actually stand
- Run your real buying questions through Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini and record whether you appear. Do it more than once. Answers vary between runs, and a single absence proves very little.
- Note who appears instead. The competitor set a model returns is often not the one you'd have named yourself, and that gap is usually the most useful thing the exercise produces.
- Check whether your best content is reachable. If your strongest proof sits behind a form or inside a video, it isn't part of the conversation.
- Or let us do it. We'll build a prompt set that mirrors how your buyers ask, run it across the major assistants, and give you a baseline with your named competitors measured alongside you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Usually one of four reasons. Your brand isn't a clear enough entity for a model to know what to recommend you for. There isn't enough independent third-party corroboration. Your best content isn't machine-readable. Or it hasn't been updated recently enough. Most companies have some of all four.
No. About 59.6% of Google AI Overview citations come from URLs that don't rank in the top 20 organic results. Ranking helps and it isn't sufficient. Plenty of companies sit on page one and are never mentioned by an assistant.
Run your genuine buying questions through ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, repeat each one several times, and record where you appear and who appears instead. The useful version is a fixed prompt set measured over time against named competitors rather than a one-off check.
That's normal. AI search is volatile and more than half of brands that drop out of an answer resurface within two runs as models rotate their source mix. Brands that reappear fastest tend to have fresher content and stronger off-site validation.
No, though they overlap. SEO optimises for a position in a ranked list. AI search visibility is about being named inside a generated answer, and models weight entity clarity, independent mentions and freshness far more heavily than a search engine ranking a page does.
Structural and entity work usually shows movement in four to six weeks. Off-site authority compounds over three to six months. Categories with entrenched incumbents take longer.
No. Model outputs are probabilistic and the providers change retrieval behaviour without notice. Be wary of anyone who says otherwise. What you can reasonably expect is a measured baseline, defined work, and reporting on movement against it.
No. The AEO work is platform-agnostic and we work on any stack. We're a HubSpot Platinum Solutions Partner, so reporting is cleanest there, but it isn't a requirement.
